Destiny 2 will offer “meaningful” features for PC players, promises the game’s publisher, Activision. Destiny 2 was announced for PC (alongside consoles) earlier this year, much to the delight of PC gamers who were disappointed that the first game in the shooting franchise skipped their platform.
During the company’s latest quarterly financial briefing, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said that the Destiny 2 publisher is “committed to deliver meaningful features that are bespoke for the PC community.” Unfortunately, Hirshberg declined to offer exact details about what special features that the Bungie-developed shooter might hold for PC players, instead encouraging people to turn into the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal that’s taking place in a few weeks. The executive did, however, say that he is “really excited about what we have to show for them.”
Although PC gamers will be chomping at the bit to see Destiny 2 in action on their platform and will be eager to know exactly what those features are, many will agree that the fact that they exist at all is a good sign. Plenty of gamers were upset to see that the shooter skipped PC the first time around but have their fingers crossed that Bungie will be able to deliver a solid follow up that makes the most of the platform.
The companies have already begun to ingratiate itself with PC gamers by promising that Destiny 2 will be released on PC via Steam. Hirshberg’s comments further suggest that both Bungie and Activision want to make amends and want to deliver an experience that’s as enjoyable for PC players as it is for console players.
Understandably though, some may have concerns that Bungie will skimp on other areas if it is trying to deliver special PC features. Destiny 2 could feature big gameplay changes and a whole host of new characters may be introduced in the new game too. Moreover, Bungie is already planning a significant downloadable content schedule for the game meaning that the developer could well have its work cut out for it if it isn’t careful.
Only time will tell if Bungie has managed to balance all three Destiny 2 release platforms well and whether or not PC players will actually like the special features that the game’s publisher is promising. But nonetheless, this is one more reason to be excited for the game.
Destiny 2 is set to release on September 8, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
