Spider-Man PS4 Will Feature Classic Villains; Marvel Helping Write Story

The Avengers and Batman may have been absent from E3 presentations this year, but Spider-Man managed to generate enough hype for the whole superhero genre. Insomniac’s upcoming PS4 exclusive Spider-Man title features some incredibly impressive looking gameplay and, according to the developer, the story is going to be equally mind blowing.

Spider-Man lore has hundreds of iconic stories to pull from, but Insomniac is using this game to tell an original story set in a new Spider-Man world. There will still be some familiar characters, powers, and settings; but the game’s plot will feature an original story that existed outside of the Marvel cinematic or comics canon. On the floor at E3, Insomniac confirmed a few additional details about the narrative development.

Insomniac explained that there are two Marvel writers helping with the story. The writers weren’t confirmed at this point, but fans of the Ultimate Spider-Man universe are likely already crossing their fingers for some Brian Michael Bendis quips.

In addition to the tidbit about Marvel writers, Insomiac also explained that the game will feature appearances from classic Spider-Man villains. Green Goblin, Doc Ock, and Kraven seem like a few obvious choices, but we may have to wait until 2018 to find out the details of Peter Parker’s PS4 rogue’s gallery.

The inclusion of Marvel writers and some classic villains manage to make this game of show contender seem even more exciting. The first look at gameplay makes it seem like Spider-Man will be a serious game changer in the action adventure genre. It’s a little disappointing that there’s no release date yet, but hopefully more details will be released in the coming months.

What do you think about the world of Insomniac’s Spider-Man? Are you pumped to find out which classic villains show up? Let us know in the comments.
