Zelda: Breath of the Wild Amiibo Functionality Revealed

The functionality for several of the amiibo figures for Nintendo’s forthcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild surfaces online in a new video.

Several months ago, while announcing and detailing the features of Wolf Link amiibo‘s compatibility with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo confirmed the fresh line of collectible amiibo models capable of working with the game as well, unveiling an Archer Link, a Rider Link, a Guardian, a Bokoblin, and Princess Zelda herself. However, the Big N failed to detail exactly what the dedicated amiibo for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will do when paired with the forthcoming Switch and Wii U adventure.

Thankfully, the fine folks over at the YouTube channel GameXplain have stepped in to give a run down of what the aforementioned amiibo for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can do by putting together a brand new video on the subject. As seen in the clip below, GameXplain notes how fans can discover these amiibos’ functionalities by taking a closer look at the back of each collectible’s packaging.

For starters, the Guardian amiibo for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild unlocks “rare weapons and items to help you on your adventure,” which are going to include a special arrow and some other items that appear to be a set of gears and a magical orb that could work with the game’s crafting component. Similar to the Guardian amiibo, the Bokoblin figure also contains rare weapons, as it will pony up a pair of powerful clubs.

As far as the collectibles for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s heroes are concerned, the Archer Link amiibo grants players access to a rather flashy bow, while his horse-riding counterpart – sans Epona, unfortunately – includes a special sword and a saddle for his steed. Princess Zelda, however, possibly provides the most useful item out of the bunch, by giving fans a chance to use an incredibly sturdy-looking Hylian shield early in the game, which likely provides ample defense against attacks when compared to a standard shield’s stats.

While all of these features for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s dedicated amiibo are certainly interesting to say the least, it should be mentioned that each of the amiibo’s packaging only discloses how the figurines will work with the Wii U version, and not with the Switch, so perhaps it’s best to take the details with a grain of salt. Plus, it’s important to note that fans need not purchase any of the amiibo to unlock the aforementioned items, as they can be obtained in the game itself without the figures. Nevertheless, since each of the amiibo figures grant access to these items much earlier on in the game without having to quest for them, it’s a safe bet to make that plenty of fans will purchase the collectibles in order to have an edge against the open world title’s dungeons at the outset.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is set to launch on March 3, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
